KERAPATAN DAN FREKUENSI SEMAI NIPAH (Nypa fruticans (Thunb.) Wurmb) DENGAN PERBEDAAN SALINITAS DI KAWASAN MANGROVE BANYUASIN SUMATERA SELATAN
Nipah (Nypa fruticans (Thunb.) Wurmb) as a member of Arecaceae is located in the land edge zone therefore its growth is influenced by fresh water, for example, in watersheds that contain brackish water. The existence of salinity in the mangrove environment can affect the growth of mangroves as a limiting factor. Nipah is often used by humans for daily life. Sustainable use of nipah can affect its viability. This study aimed to determine the density and frequency of nipah seedlings based on differences in salinity. This research was conducted from January to February 2023 and was carried out on Payung Island, Muara Sungai Lalan, and Tanjung Buyut, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The method used direct observation, which determined the location using purposive sampling. The research parameters were the number of of nipah seedlings and plots which Nipah seedling were found, abiotic environmental parameters such as soil pore water salinity, soil pH, soil moisture, and soil texture. data analysis using density and frequency formulas. The results of this study indicated that Payung Island has an average pore salinity of 4.8%0 in groundwater, a density of 0.275 in nipah palm seedlings, and a frequency of 0.5. Lalan River estuary has an average soil pore water salinity of 7.3%0, a seedling density of 0.141, and a frequency of 0.16; at Tanjung Buyut, it has an average soil pore water salinity of 12.3%0, a seedling density of 0.016, and a frequency of 0.06. The conclusion of this study is that the lower the salinity level at a location, the higher the density and frequency of Nipah palm seedlings.
