FITOPLANKTON SEBAGAI BIOINDIKATOR KUALITAS AIR DI PERAIRAN MUARA BANYUASIN KABUPATEN BANYUASIN
The coastal waters of South Sumatra cover an area traversed by major rivers which have a vital role in the life of the local community. Phytoplankton shows a responsive response to environmental changes and the composition of phytoplankton species in a water area can provide an indication of the quality of the waters. The purpose of this study was to analyze the type of phytoplankton, composition and abundance as well as the community structure of the phytoplankton as well as a biological indicator to determine whether or not the waters were polluted. This research was conducted in October 2022 in the Banyuasin estuary waters with a total of 15 observation stations. In this study, we obtained data on phytoplankton samples by using a vertical plankton net, measuring water parameters and also water samples. Data analysis was carried out, namely, abundance, composition, community structure and also bioindicators. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the value of the abundance of phytoplankton was 114-732 cells/L. The diversity index value is in the moderate category, the uniformity index is moderate, and the dominance index is in the category that does not dominate. The saprobity index shows almost the same value as the category and only a few stations are polluted. Oligo/ βmesosaprobic, Oligosaprobic or lightly polluted.
