Indonesia is an archipelagic country that has abundant iron mineral reserves. There are three types of iron raw materials found in Indonesia, including primary iron ore, laterite iron and iron sand. Thus, the use of iron sand as a raw material for the manufacture of iron and steel is one solution to the problem of the still small production of iron and steel in the country Therefore, to increase the iron sand content and separate the mineral impurities in the iron sand, a mineral processing tool is needed, namely a sluice box. The difference in specific gravity between iron sand and other impurity minerals can be separated by using a sluice box which is expected to increase Fe content in iron sand for further separation of metallic minerals from non-metallic minerals. The research was conducted using a sluice box with the variables used as research parameters were feed weight, feeding time, tool angle and riffle height. The sample used in this study was iron sand with Fe content of 45.51% as much as 27 kg. The results of the experiment produced products in the form of concentrates and tailings which were then carried out by a grain counting analysis process to determine the Fe content of iron sand in accordance with SNI-7614-2010 as a raw material for steel making. The highest grade value obtained from the results of the study was 64,17% with a recovery value of 93,06% with a feed weight of 1.5 kg with a tool slope of 40and a riffle height of 4 mm with a feeding time of 1 minute. The lowest level obtained from the experimental results was 35,92% with a feed weight of 0.5 kg with a slope of 50 and a riffle height of 4 mm with a feeding time of 1 minute. Further research can be done by modifying it as a form of tool improvement so that the results obtained are more optimal.
