The preparation of zirconium sulfide catalysts has been carried out with various modifications of silica on the catalyst using potassium hydrogen phtalate as the supporting agent, namely ZrS-SiO2, ZrS-SiO2 template method potassium hydrogen phtalate and ZrS-SiO2 chelate method potassium hydrogen phtalate. The purpose of this study was to apply the catalyst during the hydrocracking process in the conversion of CPO into biofuels and to characterize the catalyst using acidity, XRD and FTIR tests. The performance of the catalyst is shown in the hydrocracking process in the conversion of CPO into biofuel which is measured using GCMS. The results of the XRD characterization accordance with JCPDS no. 33-1161 that at 2θ:17-30° indicates the presence of silica groups and accordance with JCPDS no. 06-0266 that at 20-55° indicates the presence of zircon metal. Catalyst ZrS-SiO2 khelat method potassium hydrogn phtalate obtained amorphous silica, whereas in the ZrS-SiO2 template method KHftalat potassium hydrogn phtalate produces crystalline silica. The highest total acidity analysis results on the ZrS-SiO2 catalyst of 1.2106 mmol/g and the highest surface acidity analysis on the ZrS-SiO2 template method potassium hydrogen phtalate of 0.1299 mmol/g. Characterization using FTIR showed that there were differences in the acidity of the catalyst before and after pyridine adsorption. The results of the analysis using GCMS on the ZrS-SiO2 template method potassium hydrogen phtalate had the highest conversion of 90.01% with the lowest liquid yield of 31.81%, whereas the ZrS-SiO2 chelate method potassium hydrogen phtalate has the lowest conversion of 85.66% with the highest liquid yield of 53.03%.
