Along with the development of technology Prototyping. Rapid prototyping , there is an application called Rapid involves a 3D process in which the desired object is built layer by layer through an additive fabrication process. Technology that makes objects through computer programs by combining and compacting powders or filaments without any machining process, the technology is 3D printers. FDM, commonly called Fused Deposition Modeling, is a solidbased Rapid Prototyping method that was developed in 1989 and commercialized by Stratasys Inc. in 1990. The working principle of FDM is by heating thermoplastic material from solid to semisolid form using a nozzle, then the material is pushed into the solid. nozzle using a dc motor. Then it is printed on the table which starts from layer by layer and then takes the form of 3D objects. Polylactic Acid (PLA) is a plastic po lymer that is easily formed during the heating process. The research carried out in this final project refers to the Study of Heating and Cooling Systems for Polylactic Acid Filament Fabrication in an Extruder which functions to calculate the melting point of Polylactic Acid so that it can melt perfectly and exit through a nozzle that produces filaments. The purpose of this research is to find out the optimal effect of heating and cooling system on Polylactic Acid material in extruder machine and develop he ating and cooling system of extruder machine as well as analyze data on effect of heat transfer and cooling system on Polylactic Acid material in extruder machine. This research uses an experimental method, carried out continuously, where the design of the heater and cooling fan is very influential in influencing the quality which greatly determines whether the final product is good or bad. After getting the test data, it can be seen that the results of the temperature vs. time test are faster than the simu lated results. This is due to several factors such as uneven PLA material, or unstable electrical power, which causes a fairly fast heat transfer acceleration. These related factors need to be investigated further so that the effect on heat transfer can be identified. But in this case, the heating element in the extruder works quite well and can be concluded to work well and can reach the expected temperature. From the design process, an optimal design concept was obtained, namely the concept of heat transf er using a nozzle measuring 2 mm, a heating element with a power capacity of 200 Watt, and using a CPU fan with a capacity of 12V. As well as the analysis process that has been carried out, the temperature and time needed to melt PLA ore material is at a t emperature of 220°C and takes 300 seconds
