Central obesity is a condition where excess abdominal fat accumulates (a abdominal circumference of men is >90 cm and women >80 cm). Indonesia has a prevalence of central obesity at the age of ≥15 years of 31.0%, the prevalence of central obesity in the province of South Sumatra is 27.1% and Palembang City is the highest incidence of central obesity in teenagers ≥15 years number 2 in South Sumatra (32, 65%). The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants of teenager’s central obesity at SMA Negeri 10 Palembang. This type of research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional analytic study design. Sampling of this study was by using the Simple Random Sampling technique in accordance with the calculation of the minimum sample size required, namely 135 respondents. Measurements taken were measuring abdominal circumference using a measuring tape and measuring the frequency of fast-food consumption using a frequency of consumption questionnaire and the physical activity using a Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. Based on measurements of abdominal circumference, teenagers at SMA Negeri 10 Palembang who experience central obesity are 37%, the majority of respondents consumed fast-food frequently (53%), and the majority of respondents did strenuous physical activity (74.8%). Based on the results of the study, there was a significant relationship between the frequency of fast-food consumption (p= 0.015; PR (95% CI) = 2,628 (1,264-5,465)) and physical activity (p= 0.035; PR (95% CI) = 1,659 (0,952-2,891)) with the incidence of teenager’s central obesity at SMA Negeri 10 Palembang. In conclusion, the frequency of fastfood consumption, parental history of central obesity and physical activity are risk factors of central obesity. The school is advised to cooperate with the health center to provide education to teenagers in paying attention to food intake and physical activity patterns to prevent central obesity.
