ABSTRACT Chronic energy deficiency (CED) is a condition of malnutrition where the amount of nutrition intake and the energy expenditure in someone are not in a balanced situation that have lasted for years resulting in health problems. Nowadays, many individuals do not have enough awareness of the importance of food intake that enters their bodies causing the amount of food they consumed often too little or even too much than what they actually needed which could affect their health in the future. The purpose of this study was not only to identify the CED cases, macronutrients intake, education and income level in women of reproductive age in Tanjung Batu District, Ogan Ilir Regency but also to determine the relationship between macronutrients intake and chronic energy deficiency (CED). This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional research design. Respondents amounted to 88 people selected using a purposive sampling method. The data were processed by statistical tests and analyzed descriptively. The results of the analysis stated that 11.4% of respondents experienced CED, 98.9% of respondents had inadequate carbohydrate intake, 64.8% of respondents had inadequate protein intake, 62.5% of respondents had inadequate fat intake, 75% of respondents had low education and 84.1% of respondents had income below the regional minimum wage. According to bivariate analysis, there was no relationship between carbohydrate intake (p = 1.000), protein intake (p = 0.484), fat intake (p = 0.167), education level (p = 0.440) and income level (p = 1.000) with the incidence of CED. The conclusion of this study is that most of the respondents who had inadequate carbohydrate, protein and fat intake as well as having low education and had income below the regional minimum wage do not suffer from Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). However, most of the respondents who experienced CED had inadequate carbohydrate and protein intake as well as having low level of education and had income below the regional minimum wage. It is advisable to pay more attention to the type of food consumed as a source of macronutrients.
