PENGARUH TEMPERATUR DAN JENIS AKTIVATOR PADA PEMBUATAN KARBON AKTIF DARI TEMPURUNG KELAPA SAWIT UNTUK PENYERAPAN LOGAM TIMBAL (PB)
Many palm oil processing factories will produce waste that has not been utilized optimally in the form of palm oil shells. Oil palm shell can be used as an adsorbent to overcome environmental problems. Lead metal is a type of metal that can pollute the environment, is toxic and includes the B3 heavy metal. Production of activated carbon from oil palm shells with variations in temperature and type of activator has been carried out and applied to absorb lead (Pb). Activated carbon from oil palm shells made through a heating process using a furnace, with temperature variations of 500,600 and 700°C, variations in the types of activators of hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide and zinc chloride. After the carbonization process, the activated carbon obtained was then subjected to quality tests including moisture content, ash content, iodine absorption, and methylene blue absorption. In the analysis obtained 0.14% moisture content, 7.6% ash content, 1,389 mg/g iodine absorption, 2. 176 ml/g surface area. Based on the quality test of the activated carbon, it complied with the requirements of SNI 06-3730-1995, so that the best carbonization temperature variation was obtained at 500°C and the best activator was sodium hydroxide. The best activated carbon was applied for the absorption of lead metal (Pb) and tested with an AAS spectrophotometer. Adsorption of lead metal (Pb) with mass variations of 1, 2, 3, 4 grams obtained absorption efficiency and absorption capacity of (88.1000, 88.0557, 88.1855, and 88.3775%) and (1, 7620, 0.8805, 0.5879 and 0.4418 mg/g). The greatest absorption efficiency of lead metal (Pb) was obtained at a mass of 4 grams of adsorbent.
