PEMBUATAN ADSORBEN TEMPURUNG KELAPA SAWIT SEBAGAI PENYERAP TIMBAL (Pb) DENGAN VARIASI pH DAN KONSENTRASI LARUTAN
The palm oil industry in Indonesia produces a lot of solid waste in the form of palm shells. Palm shell contains cellulose that can be utilised as an adsorbent. Adsorbents can function as metal absorbers such as Pb metal. Pb metal that exceeds the maximum limit in waters can endanger the surrounding environment. This study was conducted to make adsorbents from oil palm shells that were refined at 500 ° C for 2 hours and sieved by 100 mesh and then used NaOH activator ± 1M and applied to absorb Pb metal through variations in pH and concentration. The activated carbon of oil palm shells used several methods including UV-Vis spectrophotometer method to analyse the absorption of methylene blue, then characterised using FTIR method to analyse the functional groups on activated carbon and AAS spectrophotometer method to analyse the absorption of activated carbon to lead metal. The palm shell activated carbon produced a moisture content of 10.3% and an ash content of 9.45%. The surface area of palm shell activated carbon against methylene blue was 2,004.9 m²/g and the absorption capacity of activated carbon against iodine was 872.43 mg/g. The characterised activated carbon shows that there are still organic compounds such as C-O, O-H, and C-H groups. The absorption capacity of Pb metal concentration of 20 ppm at pH variation is obtained optimum at pH 5 with absorption efficiency of 98.85%. The optimum concentration of lead (II) nitrate solution at pH
