PENENTUAN AKTIVITAS ANTIFOTOAGING EKSTRAK BUAH TEMBESU (Fagraea fragrans Roxb)
Tembesu plant (Fagraea fragrans Roxb) is one of the plants that grows in South Sumatra. Tembesu’s fruit contains various secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, triterpenoids, alkaloids, and tannin trimmer that makes tembesu potential to be phytocosmetic. Therefore, this study aims to determine antiphotoaging activity of the n-hexane’s fraction, ethyl acetate’s fraction and methanol’s extract of tembesu’s fruit (Fagraea fragrans Roxb). This research began with the maceration process of tembesu’s fruit using methanol as the solvent and then fractionated with n-hexane and ethyl acetate sequentially. Each of the fraction was measured the ultraviolet spectra before and after exposure to sunlight for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours then calculated the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) value of the fractios which is used as the parameter to determine the antiphotoaging activity of the fraction. The result shows that SPF value of the n-hexane fraction residue (1333 ppm) after being exposed to the sun decreased more than 50% and the average of the protection level is 89,18%. The SPF value of the ethyl acetate fraction residue (167 ppm) protects the skin 95.55% and the methanol extract (667 ppm) protects the skin 96.9% and the value tends to be stable before and after exposure under sunlight. The ethyl acetate fraction residue with a smaller concentration is able to provide protection that is not much different from the methanol extract residue. Therefore, the ethyl acetate fraction residue of tembesu’s fruit has higher antiphotoaging activity than the methanol extract residue and n-hexane fraction residue.
