KORELASI RED CELL DISTRIBUTION WIDTH DENGAN STATUS BESI PADA PENDERITA ANEMIA DEFISIENSI BESI.
Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a lack of iron availability in the body. The incidence of IDA in children in Indonesia ranges from 40‒50%. The diagnosis is generally made based on anamnesis, physical examination, and laboratory results. Examination of iron status is one of the examinations that are common, sensitive, and a diagnosis of IDA in Indonesia at this time by carrying out a serum ferritin test. SI, and TIBC. However, these three tests have not been routinely carried out due to limited laboratory facilities and high costs. Red cell distribution width is considered an easy check, and relatively inexpensive to detecting IDA. Therefore, research was carried out to analyze the RDW‒CV correlation with iron status in IDA sufferers in the Children's Department of RSMH Palembang. Methods: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Secondary data was used from medical records of IDA sufferers in the Pediatrics Department of RSMH Palembang, totally 44 people using consecutive sampling techniques. Data were analyzed in two stages, namely univariate and bivariate analysis using Spearman's correlation test. Research Results: It was found that the 0‒2 years age group consisted of 25 people (56.8%), and the male gender group 32 samples ( 72.7 %) suffer more from IDA. From Spearman's analysis there was correlation between RDW‒CV and Serum ferritin (p=0.03., r= ‒0.13). Conclusion: The research conducted on patients with IDA at the Pediatrics Department of RSMH Palembang from 2019 to 2021 found a correlation between RDW‒CV and Serum ferritin. Keywords: Iron deficiency anemia, RDW‒CV, Serum ferritin, Serum iron, TIBC
