PENGARUH CAMPURAN NANOPARTIKEL TITANIUM DIOKSIDA PADA PLAT AKRILIK TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN STREPTOCOCCUS SANGUINIS.
Background: Acrylic plates on removable orthodontic appliances can be a place for plaque and food scraps to facilitate Streptococcus sanguinis microorganisms to breed. Adding nanoparticle of titanium dioxide to acrylic plate may provide antibacterial activity. Objecttive: To see effect of TiO2 nanoparticle on acrylic plate to growth of Streptococcus sanguinis. Method: This research is a laboratory experimental research used acrylic plates without the addition of TiO2 nanoparticle and with the addition of TiO2 nanoparticle of 2%, 3%, and 4% with a size 10x10x1 mm. There were 24 samples grouped in 4 groups, each consisted of 6 samples sterilized with alcohol, then soaked on saline. The sample was put in Streptococcus sanguinis suspension, and than transferred to a tube containing PBS and then seeded on MSA media. The number of growing Streptococcus sanguinis colonies is calculated in units of CFU/ml. Data were analyzed statistically by Kruskal-wallis test and followed by Post-hoc test Mann Whitney. Result: There were significant differences in acrylic plates without addition of TiO2 nanoparticle and with the addition of TiO2 nanoparticle of 2%, 3%, and 4% to reduce the growth of Streptococcus sanguinis (P
