ANALISIS PENINGKATAN KUALITAS MINERRAL HEMATIT PADA PASIR BESI UNTUK MEMENUHI KEBUTUHAN INDUSTRI SEMEN DALAM SKALA LABORATORIUM
Iron sand is a sand deposit that contains various minerals in it, including the hematite mineral (Fe2O3) which is one of the materials used in the cement manufacturing industry. The Fe2O3 grade in the iron sand used for cement manufacture must comply with the cement manufacturing standard, which is 76,21%. Usually, the Fe2O3 grade contained in the iron sand from mining practice does not reach the standard in the cement industry, so it is necessary to process this straight-from-mine iron sand to increase the Fe2O3 grade in order to achieve the standard in cement manufacturing industry. This research aims to analyze the iron sand grade before going through processing, analyze factors that could improve quality of iron sand grade, and analyze the iron sand grade after going through the processing. In this research, the analysis of improving iron sand grade is done through processing using a pan american jig with feeding speed, frequency of stroke and stroke’s length as the operating variables. Feeding speed used in this research are 25 s/kg, 40 s/kg dan 55 s/kg. The frequency of stroke used are 19 rpm, 21 rpm dan 23 rpm. The stroke’s length used are 0,5 mm, 0,6 mm dan 0,7 mm. Based on the research conducted, there were 9 samples that experienced increase in Fe2O3 grade so that they could meet the requirements of cement manufacturing industry standard. The highest Fe2O3 grade in this study were found in sample with variations of feeding speed 40 s/kg, frequency of stroke 21 rpm and stroke’s length 0,6 mm, with concentrate Fe2O3 grade of 77,64% and recovery value of 93,66%.
