EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK CORN SILK ZEA MAYS SACCHARATA SEBAGAI PENGHAMBAT PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS PADA PLAT AKRILIK.
Background: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria that are important in the establishment of plaque and often be found on the surface of acrylic license plate on artificial removable partial denture (GTSL). GTSL cleaning can be done with a mechanical, chemical, or combination. Natural materials like sweet corn silk (Corn silk Zea mays Saccharata) can be used as an alternative as a cleaner of GTSL because Corn silk Zea mays Saccharata has contents like flavonoid, saponin and an alkaloid which play a role as an antibacterial. Research: Influence of extract Corn silk Zea mays Saccharata in pursuing growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria acrylic on the license plate. Materials and method: The research used the sweet corn silk by experimental laboratory by post-test only control group design. A method of maceration uses a solvent ethanol 70% to make extract Corn silk Zea mays Saccharata was to get concentration 25%, 50%, and 75%. Research uses Sodium hypochlorite 0,5 % as a positive control and aquades as a negative control. Results: The lowest average growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on acrylic plate is at the provision of Corn silk Zea mays Saccharata of 75% namely 366,40 CFU/ml, but not as low as Sodium Hypochlorite 0 CFU/ml. While the average growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on the acrylic plate is highest of negative control 1196,80 CFU/ml. Conclusion: Corn silk Zea mays Saccharata extract using ethanol as a solvent can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on acrylic plates with 75% as the concentration has the highest effectiveness. Keywords: Staphylococcus aureus, removable partial denture, Corn silk Zea mays Saccharata.
