UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK ETANOL MAHKOTA DAUN NANAS (Ananas comosus) KOTA PRABUMULIH TERHADAP Staphylococcus aureus
Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogen that caused some oral infections. The use of antibacterial agents such as Chlorhexidine can eliminate Staphylococcus aureus, but may exhibit side effects, such as oral mucosa irritation, taste perception alteration, burning sensation, and tooth staining. Therefore, Ananas comosus crown leaf is used as an alternative therapy because it has antibacterial activity. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in an experimental laboratory in vitro consisting of six groups, such as Ananas comosus crown leaf extract with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% concentration, Chlorhexidine 0,2% as a positive control, and distilled water as a negative control. The antibacterial activity was tested by using the modified Kirby-Bauer method. Results: Inhibition test showed that only Chlorhexidine 0,2% was effective in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus with an average inhibition zone value of 11.97 mm. Conclusion: The ethanol extract of Ananas comosus crown leaf has no antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.
