New discoveries in various fields facilitate human activities, including in terms of means of collecting donations through online platforms. Online donation-based crowdfunding is widely used today. The main purpose of crowdfunding is to provide an alternative for institutions to obtain funding using social media networks and this activity has the potential to cause misuse of these funds. On the basis of the above thoughts, the authors were interested in conducting research entitled "Legal Protection for Donors in Online Public Donation Raising with the Donation-Based Crowdfunding System at the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute". The method used in this research was normative juridical which was supported by empirical data. Legal materials were obtained from primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. The material was analyzed by qualitative analysis, and conclusions were drawn in a deductive way. Based on the results of the study it was concluded that there was legal protection for donors in raising public donations online with a donation-based crowdfunding system at the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute, which was regulated in Law Number 9 of 1961 concerning Collection of Money and Goods and Government Regulation Number 29 of 1980 concerning Implementation of Contribution Collection and several Ministerial Decrees and Regulations. However, the regulation did not specifically accommodate forms of legal protection for donors and mechanisms for permits to organize fundraising and imposition of sanctions, so there was legal uncertainty, which would give rise to the potential for misuse of donations made by platforms. In the future regarding regulation and legal protection in raising public donations online for the donation-based crowdfunding system, it is necessary to specifically regulate legal protection for donors and impose sanctions on platforms that misuse donation funds, and establish a special supervisory body to oversee and regulate donation implementation activities - based crowdfunding.
