KORELASI KADAR HbA1c TERHADAP TEKANAN INTRAOKULER PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE 2 DI RAWAT JALAN RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the non-communicable diseases that has received special attention from World Health Organization. Diabetes mellitus is closely related to HbA1c levels because it is one of the parameters for controlling DM disease. One of the effects caused by DM in the eye is an increase in intraocular pressure. Intraocular pressure (IOP) is the pressure in the eyes whose value is determined by the rate at which aqueous humor is formed and the resistance to its outflow from the eye due to scleral rigidity. This study aims to determine the correlation between HbA1c levels and intraocular pressure in patients with type 2 DM. Method: This study is an analytical research using secondary data in the form of medical records. Samples were taken using consecutive sampling techniques, that is all subjects observed and comply the sample criteria were included in the sample until the required sample size enough. Result: Patients with Type 2 DM at the Eye Clinic of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for the January 2019–December 2021 period, the majority were in the age range of 40–65 years (64,7%), female (56,9%), and housewife (43,1%). Most of the patients don’t have history of hypertension (74,5%), family history of Type 2 DM (58,8%), and history of refractive errors (74,5%). The majority of Type 2 DM patients have abnormal HbA1c levels (56,9%). The intraocular pressure of the majority of patients was in the normal category (56,9%). From Spearman's correlation test, it was found that there was a significant correlation between increased HbA1c levels and increased IOP in patients with Type 2 DM (r 0,621). Conclusion: The higher the HbA1c level, the higher the IOP in Type 2 DM patients. Thus, early monitoring is needed for increasing HbA1c levels which can result in increased intraocular pressure. Keywords: HbA1c, Intraocular Pressure, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
