PENGARUH LARUTAN ASAM PADA PROSES QUENCHING TERHADAP LAJU KOROSI STAINLESS STEEL
Steel is a very vital need, this can be seen from the increasing number of construction machine/equipment components made of steel. This study aims to determine the effect of acid solution on the corrosion rate of quenched stainless steel (AISI 304). This study uses experimental research methods. This research was conducted for 240 hours or 10 days, the specimens used were 5 specimens in specimens 1 and 3 were quenched in a 32% concentration HCl cooling medium with different temperatures of 650o C and 600o C, in specimens 2 and 4 were quenched in a concentration HCl cooling medium 16% with different temperatures of 650o C and 600o C, and specimen 5 (raw material). From the research conducted, it was shown that 16% HCl quenching media was more corrosive than 32% HCl, due to the reaction between HCl and water to produce hydronium ions (H3O+). High alloy steels such as stainless steel (aisi 304 stainless steel) are still racist against acid in the quenching process when the temperature given to the steel has not reached the austenite temperature.
