KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL, HDL DAN LDL DARAH AYAM BROILER STRAIN LOHMAN DENGAN PEMBERIAN JUS TEMULAWAK (Curcuma xanthorriza Roxb)
Broilers are a type of broiler chicken that is commonly produced due to their quick harvest period and ease of upkeep, allowing them to be marketed in a relatively short amount of time. Temulawak is a traditional plant that is frequently utilized as a herbal medicine by the people of Indonesia. Temulawak can be utilized for animals as well as a herbal medicine since it contains secondary metabolite products of curcumin and essential oils that act as antioxidants and antimicrobials. The purpose of this study is to determine how temulawak juice affects total cholesterol, LDL, and HDL levels in broiler chicken blood. This research was conducted on August 15 – September 13, 2022. This research was carried out at the Experimental Animal Farm Laboratory of the Animal Science Study Program, Department of Animal Science Technology and Industry, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. Blood samples were analyzed at the Sriwijaya University Health Clinic laboratory. This study used descriptive analysis. The treatment consisted of P0 = Control, P1 = 0.5 % Temulawak, P2 = 1 % and P3 = 1.5 % temulawak Temulawak is carried out by strangulation. Temulawak juice was given to broiler chicks to test against normal cholesterol levels, which were 104.5 mg/dL - 133 mg/dL. Temulawak has proven unable to lower cholesterol because to the random blood draw variables used by the majority of female broiler chickens and the severe temperatures in cages. Temulawak juice administration does not raise HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) levels above normal, namely 17.5 mg/dL - 25 mg/dL, and lowers LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) levels to 68 mg/dL - 93 mg/dL, which is relatively low because temulawak juice inhibits LDL oxidation and cholesterol accumulation in macrophages. Giving temulawak juice 1.5%/bb (P3) reduced cholesterol and LDL levels in broiler chicken blood by 19.3% and 5.6%, respectively, compared to the control treatment.
