Indonesia is the fourth largest coffee producer in the world after Brazil , Vietnam , and Colombia . This makes coffee also popular in most Indonesian communities . Ngopi is a lifestyle familiar to Indonesian people from the past to the present day , especially to the students in Palembang with the increasing number of coffee shops that make coffee shops contribute to making it a public space for people to gather . So this study explains the use or use of coffee shops for the people of Palembang City , especially students . The purpose of this research is to determine the extent of the use of public spaces in the form of coffee shops for the people of most developed cities , especially late teens or students sociologically , by taking a sample of the study . The method used in this study uses a qualitative research method with a qualitative descriptive approach . Then the research strategy used in this study is phenomenological methods that aim to describe the meaning of experiences experienced by some people for specific concepts or phenomena . Data collection techniques from this study are by means of observation , interview and documentation methods . Based on the results of interviews and observations conducted by researchers in the field , the results show that the use of coffee shops as public spaces is not just coffee , but starting with important activities such as business meetings , discussions in organizations or discussions , or simply for have to meet friends , date or play games ..
