Premature rupture of membranes is the rupture of membranes prior to the onset of labour. The prevalence of premature rupture of membranes in Indonesia is estimated at 4.5% to 7.6% of all pregnancies. Many factors affect of premature rupture of membranes, but the definitive cause is unknown. This study aims to determine prevalence and characteristic premature rupture of membranes. This observational descriptive study was conducted by a cross-sectional study design and consecutive sampling method. The samples of this study were taken from the medical records of pregnant women with premature rupture of membranes in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Prevalence of premature rupture of membranes in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang period January 2020-December 2021 is 7.43%. The research results showed from 140 samples, most premature rupture of membranes occur in preterm PROM (52.1%), age group 20-35 years (82.1%), housewife occupation (71.4%), multiparous parity (50.7%), senior high school educational status (80.0%). Based on clinical characteristics is anemia (63.6%), no leukocytosis (79.3%), single fetus (94.3%), PROM ≥12hour (50.7%), no trauma (96.4%), no malpresentation (90.0%), no overdistention uterus (92.9%), no history of abortion (79.3%), no history of hypertension (82.1%), history of leucorrhoea (73,5%), no history of PROM (97.1%), no history of preterm labor before (94.3%), no history of circlase (99.3%) and sectio caesarea as management (42.2%). Prevalence of premature rupture of membranes in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang period January 2020-December 2021 is 7.43%. Sociodemographic characteristics associated with premature rupture of membranes most commonly occur in the 20-35 year age group, housewife, multiparous and senior high school educational status. Clinical characteristics associated with premature rupture of membranes are moderate anemia, duration of PROM ≥12 hours, history of leucorrhoea and sectio caesarea.
