Sleep is a natural physiological process that is vital for the physical and mental well-being of pregnant women and their fetuses. Sleep quality is very important for the physical and mental health of the mother and fetus. Pregnant women are especially prone to sleep disturbances. A potential factor that contributes to sleep disturbances is stress in pregnant women (prenatal maternal stress). This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the relationship between prenatal maternal stress and sleep quality in pregnant women in Palembang. This study also aims to determine the factors that influence prenatal maternal stress. This study is analytic observational, with primary data collected from October 18 to November 19. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires directly to 6 puskesmas (Pembina Health Center, Kampus Health Center, Sabokingking Health Center, Kertapati Health Center, Dempo Health Center, and Alang-Alang Lebar Health Center ) Palembang. Pregnancy Stress Rating Scale (PSRS) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires were used in this study. In this study, the results obtained were that of 56 pregnant women in Palembang, 57.1% of pregnant women experienced stress (mild stress (51.8%) and moderate stress (5.3%)). There were 39.3% of pregnant women with good sleep quality and 60.7% of pregnant women with poor sleep quality. In bivariate analysis it was found that there was a significant relationship between prenatal maternal stress and quality of sleep in pregnant women (PR=4.350; 95% CI; (1.979 – 9.564; p= 0,000). There was also a significant relationship between the age of pregnant women and prenatal maternal stress (PR= 0,323; 95% CI: (0.168 – 0.612); p=0,000) and a significant relationship between maternal’s occupation and prenatal maternal stress (PR= 0.425; 95% CI: (0.198 – 0.913); p = 0,013) Among 56 respondents, 57.1% of pregnant women experienced stress and 60.7% of pregnant women with poor sleep quality. There was a significant relationship between prenatal maternal stress and sleep quality in pregnant women in Palembang. The protective factors for prenatal maternal stress were age and mother's occupation.
