GAMBARAN SKOR GERIATRIC DEPRESSION SCALE (GDS) PADA PASIEN LANSIA DI POLIKLINIK GERIATRI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Depression is a mood disorder that causes persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest. Depression in the elderly is a big problem because it can have an impact on medical, social and economic aspects. However, the incidence of depression in the elderly is often overlooked and undetected. An instrument that can be used to detect depression in the elderly is the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). This study aims to describe the GDS score in elderly patients in the Geriatric Polyclinic at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used was total sampling within a period of one month and met the inclusion criteria. The sample consisted of 43 elderly patients. Data collection was carried out by interviews using a sociodemographic questionnaire, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), and Physical Activity Scale for The Elderly (PASE). This study found that the lowest GDS score in elderly patients was 0 and the highest score was 7. Depression occurred in 7% of elderly patients in the Geriatric Polyclinic at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang, and occurred more frequently in the 70-79 years age group (14.3%), male (11.8%), married (7.7%), history of tertiary education (11, 1%), had worked (8.1%), never had mental disorders (7%), had been infected with COVID-19 (8.3%), had mild co-morbidities (9.4%), and having sedentary activity (25 %). The majority (93%) of elderly patients have normal GDS scores. Depression only occurs in 7% of elderly patients in the Geriatric Polyclinic at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang.
