Leprosy is a chronic granulomatous disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae that affects the nerves and skin. Based on WHO classification, leprosy is classified into PB (paucibacillary) and MB (multibacillary). In order to meet the goals of WHO "zero-leprosy roadmaps", the use of vaccines is one of the pillars of strategy and a key component of research. The BCG vaccine have the main purpose to protect against tuberculosis, but studies had shown that there was also a significant protective effect against leprosy. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the BCG vaccination status and the type of leprosy at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. This study used an observational analytic research method with a cross-sectional design (one-time data collection). Total sampling technique used in the form of leprosy patients medical record and 38 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were found. Statistical analysis was performed with the Fisher Extact Test because the Chi square test requirements were not fulfilled. A total of 38 leprosy patients, of which 20 were female (52.6%). The age range of 26-35 years was dominant with 14 (36.8%). The data was dominated by high education level with 26 (68.4%). The occupation group was dominated by not working group with 16 (42.1%). The group with positive BCG vaccination status was 6 (15.8%) and negative BCG vaccination status was 32 (84.2%). Leprosy MB type was 33 (86.8%) and leprosy PB type was 5 (13.2%). No significant association was found between BCG vaccination status and leprosy type (p value > 0,05). The BCG vaccination status of leprosy patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang was still very low and had not significant relationship with the type of leprosy.
