Maternal mortality is a death that occurs in women during pregnancy until the puerperium or 42 days after termination of pregnancy, regardless of the anatomical location and duration of pregnancy. The determinant of maternal mortality is a factor that has a significant influence, both positively and negatively on maternal death. This study is aimed to increase the prevention of maternal death and improve maternal health services at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang by analyzing determinant factors in the specified hospital. This is an observational descriptive study, using the total of 36 samples of maternal death cases in the period of 2019-2021. Data were obtained from medical record of patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sampling was carried out using the total sampling method. Of the 36 samples studied, the highest distribution of maternal deaths based on determinant factors was found in the age group of 20-35 years (91.7%), parity 2-4 (63.8%), interpregnancy interval < 2 or ≥ 5 years (64%), ANC frequency ≥ 4 times (55.6%), length of time to receive the first treatment ≤ 30 minutes (100%), residence in Palembang City (58.4%), primary-secondary education status (97,2%), housewife (61.1%), timing of death after delivery (88.9%), place of death in the inpatient unit (52.8%), obstetric complication preeclampsia-eclampsia (38,9%), and non-obstetric complication Covid-19 (41.6%). Highest distribution of maternal death was found in the age group of 21-35 years, parity 2-4, interpregnancy interval < 2 or ≥ 5 years, ANC frequency ≥ 4 times, length of time to receive the first treatment ≤ 30 minutes, residence in Palembang City, primary-secondary education status, housewife, timing of death after delivery, place of death in the inpatient unit, obstetric complications of preeclampsia-eclampsia, and non-obstetric complications of Covid-19.
