EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK DAUN BELIMBING WULUH (AVERRHOA BILIMBI L) 15% TERHADAP KEBERSIHAN SEPERTIGA APIKAL SALURAN AKAR DENGAN TEKNIK AGITASI MANUAL
Background: The root canal preparation will produce a smear layer, therefore it needed adequate techniques and irrigation solutions to clean the root canal, especially the apical third because there are many anatomical variations of the root canal. Manual agitation using gutta-percha technique can be used to clean the root canal. Averrhoa bilimbi L is one of the natural irrigation solution which had active substances such as saponins. The content of saponins acts as a detergent so that it can dissolve the smear layer. Aims: To determine the effectiveness of Averrhoa bilimbi L leaf extract 15% using manual agitation technique on the cleanliness of the apical third of the root canal. Methods: This quasi-experiment used 20 mandibular premolars and was divided into 4 groups. Samples were prepared with the crown down technique and irrigated according to the groups: group A Averrhoa bilimbi L leaf extract 15% using manual agitation technique, group B Averrhoa bilimbi L leaf extract 15% using a non-agitation technique, group C NaOCl 2.5% with EDTA 17% using manual agitation technique, and group D NaOCl 2.5% with EDTA 17% using a non-agitation technique. The samples were then cut longitudinally and evaluated using SEM at 5000x magnification. Data were analyzed by Kappa test, followed by the Kruskal-Wallis test, and post hoc Mann-Whitney. Results: There was no significant difference in apical third cleanliness between groups A-B, A-D, and C-D, but there was a significant difference between groups A-C, B-C, and B-D. Conclusion: Averrhoa bilimbi L leaf extract 15% using manual agitation technique has the same effectiveness as the combination of NaOCl 2.5% with EDTA 17%.
