Enhancing descriptive writing achievement of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Palembang through four square writing method
The objective of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in descriptive writing achievement between the eighth grade students of SMP N 10 Palembang in academic year of 2012-2013 who were taught through Four Square Writing Method and those who were not. The population was 317. The samples were 37 students both for experimental and control groups taken based on convenient sampling technique. In order to maintain validity, content validity was applied. The design of the study was quasiexperimental method and used pre and posttest approach. The results of the tests were analyzed by using paired sample and independent t-test through SPSS version 21. Based on paired sample t-test, the mean score of pretest in the experimental group was 8.8 and the mean of posttest was 12.4. However, the mean score of pretest in control group was 8.6 and the mean of posttest was 9.1. In addition, from independent sample t-test, it showed that the mean difference was 3.297. It meant that the scores obtained by experimental group were grater than that of the control group. As a result, H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. In conclusion, Four Square Writing Method can enhance descriptive writing achievement of the eighth grade students of SMP N 10 Palembang.
