Butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea) contains phenolic compounds which are efficacious as antioxidants that can overcome various skin damage. Peel off masks are popular topical formulation because they are unique and practical. One of the important components of peel off masks is the gelling agent PVA as a film-forming agent. However, PVA at the wrong concentration can result in poor mask physical properties. The combination of PVA with other gelling agents can be done to obtain a peel off mask with better physical properties. This study aims to identify the effect of PVA and iota carrageenan on the physical properties of the peel off mask, identify the stability and antioxidant activity of the peel off mask optimal formula. Butterfly pea flower extraction was carried out by maceration method using 70% ethanol as solvent. Optimization of PVA and iota carrageenan using factorial design method with observed responses which are viscosity, spreadability, and drying time. Peel off mask of butterfly pea flower extract was made with variations of PVA (low level 10%; high level 16%) and iota carrageenan (low level 0.5%; high level 1%). Stability testing was done by cycling test method and antioxidant activity test by DPPH method. The results showed that increasing the concentration of PVA and iota carrageenan had a significant effect on increasing viscosity and decreasing spreadability and drying time. Based on the results obtained, the peel off mask formula was optimal at a concentration of 16% PVA and 0,5% iota carrageenan with a viscosity of 16,473 cPs, spreadibility of 5,6 cm, and drying time 23 minutes 11 seconds. The optimal formula showed good stability during storage and had weak antioxidant activity with IC50 value 171,738 µg/mL.
