The increase in the number of uses of aluminum both in industry and household needs resulted in a lot of aluminum waste circulating in the environment. One way to utilize aluminum scrap is by re-casting. This study wants to know the effect of mold dimension on the phenomenon that occurs when the freezing of molten metal in contact with open-air and on the other side in the cold wall material mold. The mold used is square with the size of each side of 80x80mm, 100x100m, 120x120mm, and has a height of 30mm. The tests carried out included chemical composition tests, shrinkage tests, dye penetrant tests, hardness tests (Brinell), and metallographic observations. The results of the shrinkage test show that the smallest average shrinkage value is found in the 120x120m mold size with a shrinkage value of 1.70735 % and the largest shrinkage value is found in the 80x80 specimen with a shrinkage value of 3.31171875 %. The results of the Brinell hardness test in this study showed the highest hardness value was found in the A1 test sample with an average hardness value of 77.2691 kgf/〖mm〗^2, while the lowest hardness value was shown in the C2 test sample with an average hardness value of 52.114433 kgf/〖mm〗^2. Microstructural observations showed that the grain size at the edge of the specimen was smaller than the center. This is because the cooling rate at the edges is faster than the center of the specimen which results in relatively smaller grain sizes.
