ANALISIS BIOMASSA KARBON PADA TEGAKAN NIPAH (Nypa fruticans) DI PULAU PAYUNG, SUMATERA SELATAN
The increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the atmosphere causes global warming. The fungsion of forests as carbon sinks and storage is very important to overcome the problems of GHGs effects. One type of mangrove that is able to absorb and carbon storage in the form of biomass is nipah (Nypa fruticans). The purpose of this study was to analyze the density of nipa palm stands, biomass, and amount of carbon stock from nipa palm in Payung Island. Based on the estimation of nipa palm biomass used the allometric equation method. The results showed that the average density of nipa palm stands in Payung Island was around 3711 ind/ha, this value was included in the good criteria (very dense). This study produced an average biomass of 14.47 tons/ha and a carbon stock of 7.03 tons C/ha with the highest value at station 4 and the lowest at station 1 for biomass and carbon stock.
