Horseshoe crab is one of the marine animals whose existence is rarely found. In Indonesia to be precise in South Sumatra, horseshoe crab are found as discarded by fishermen in Banyuasin South Sumatra Estuary. Horseshoe crab has blue blood and contains amebocyte which can be used to detect the presence of bacterial endotoxins. Then, the processing of horseshoe crab blood was carried out at the Laboratory of Applied Genetics Engineering and Protein Design, BRIN Research Center for Biotechnology, Cibinong, Bogor. The results showed that form 94 samples of horseshoe crab, 83% (78 samples) were able to detect bacterial endotoxins which was indicated by the formation of a gel clot.
