ANALISIS PENINGKATAN KADAR PASIR SILIKA DENGAN MENGUNAKAN MAGNETIC SEPARATOR UNTUK MEMENUHI KEBUTUHAN INDUSTRI KACA PENGAMAN DALAM SKALA LABORATORIUM
Silica sand is one of the non-metallic minerals which is quite abundant in Indonesia. Silica sand is found in coastal areas of rivers, lakes, beaches, and some in shallow oceans. Silica sand is also one of the raw materials used for the safety glass industry. The silica content (SiO2) in silica sand for the safety glass industry must comply with the Indonesian National Standard for the safety glass industry, which is 99%. Generally, the levels of SiO2 in Indonesia have not reached the standard in the safety glass industry, so it is necessary to process the silica sand feed to increase the SiO2 level in order to reach the safety glass industry standard. This study aims to analyze the effect of factors such as the width of the feed hole, the length of the feed time and the rotational speed of the magnet on the quality of silica sand; analyze the quality of the silica sand in the feed before it is separated by means of a magnetic separator; and analyze the quality of silica sand produced in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard for the safety glass industry. In this study, the analysis of improving the quality of silica sand through processing uses a magnetic separator with a variable feed hole width, feed time, and magnetic rotational speed. The width of the bait holes used were 10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm. The feed time used is 1 minute, 1.5 minutes, and 2 minutes. The rotating speed of the magnet used is 100 rpm, 200 rpm, and 300 rpm. Based on the research conducted, there were 5 experiments that experienced an increase in SiO2 levels so that they could meet the Indonesian National Standard for the safety glass industry. The highest levels of SiO2 in this study were found in studies with a feed hole width of 10 cm, a feed time of 2 minutes, and a magnetic rotational speed of 100 rpm, with SiO2 concentrate content of 99.85% and recovery value of 82.12%
