PT Bara Alam Utama (BAU) is a subsidiary of the Bara Coal Group which is engaged in the coal mining industry with an area of IUP Production Operation which is 799.6 hectares. The company is located in Gunung Agung Village, South Merapi District, Lahat Regency. The mining method applied is open pit mining. The bottom of this mine is located at an elevation of 18 m with the highest point located at an elevation of 115 m, so it has a depth of 97 m. This pit has a sump with a capacity of 349,329.7 m3 with the bottom of the sump located at an elevation of 18 m and the surface is located at an elevation of 26 m, so it has a depth of 8 m which is useful for accommodating water entering the pit. To reduce the discharge of water entering the pit, a 1447 m long channel around the mine was made to drain and remove water from the surface. The water in the sump is pumped into an open channel located at an elevation of 95 m, to the settling pond using a KSB DnD 200-5HX pump. Pits are often submerged in water and flooded, because the drainage system does not meet the requirements, namely, the sump owned cannot accommodate the incoming water and often overflows, disrupting mining production activities. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a Technical Planning of the Coal Mine Drainage System. The runoff discharge in the East Pit of PT Bara Alam Utama that enters the mining front is 6,783.82 m3/day. It is planned to add a sump volume of 70,406.76 m3 from the actual sump volume of 349,329 m3. The planned addition of the sump volume is by making embankments around the sump. The discharge capacity of the KSB DnD 200-5HX pump is 721.03 m3/hour and a minimum of 9.4 hours of work per day in order to balance the flow of water entering the mine. The dimensions of the open channel that will be planned are in the form of a trapezoid with a channel depth of 0.43 m, the speed of water flow in an open channel is 0.38 m/second.
