Tin sand processing not only utilizes the main mineral but also begins to utilize its accessory minerals, namely monazite as a rare earth metal carrier mineral. The mineral monazite contains the rare earth element neodymium which can be used as raw material in the permanent magnet industry. Monazite with quality levels below 40% can be improved by using the gravity concentration method using the sluice box tool. The purpose of this tool is to increase the level of monazite minerals in tin sand to reach the standard for permanent magnet industrial raw materials. In this study, the analysis of monazite levels increments uses variations in water discharge, tool slope, and riffle height. The results of the study resulted in two products which are concentrate and tailing. They were then carried out with a grain counting analysis process to determine the value of monazite content from the processing of tin sand originating from the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands. The tin sand sample used is known to have an initial monazite mineral content of 4.97%. From the results of the study, it was found that the highest quality of monazite mineral content after processing was 10.39% with a recovery value of 58.85% through experiments on the discharge variable 21.6 L/minute, the slope of the tool 4, and the riffle height of 8 mm. Meanwhile, the lowest monazite mineral content obtained after processing was 7.54% with a recovery value of 98.02% through experiments on a variable discharge of 31.8 L/min, a slope of 6, and a riffle height of 4 mm. The process of improving the quality of monazite levels in tin sand has not reached the standard for raw materials in the permanent magnet industry. This research suggests that advanced processing is carried out to achieve the standards that have been set.
