ANALISIS PENINGKATAN KUALITAS PASIR SILIKA SEBAGAI BAHAN BAKU SILICON CARBIDE DALAM SKALA LABORATORIUM
Silica sand or quartz sand in Indonesia is widely spread in several areas and can be found along the coast and the sea. The largest reserves of quartz sand are on the island of Sumatra, West Sumatra. Quartz sand is also found in the provinces of South Sumatra, the islands of Bangka and Belitung. In addition to the island of Sumatra, quartz sand is also found in the provinces of West Kalimantan and West Java. However, the province of Bangka Belitung has considerable potential as an area that has a fairly abundant amount of quartz sand reserves. Where the quartz sand at this location acts as a by-product of tin deposits, which is the main mining commodity in this province. Silica sand washing process is a way to clean silica sand to get the best quality. The tool used in this research is a sluice box with the variable that I use is the length of processing time. Increasing levels of SiO2 in silica sand in the processing using a sluice box can meet the requirements as silicon carbide raw material according to the journal standards used, which is 56.5% through analysis of grain counting calculations and this is influenced by the processing time variables used in the study on the sluice box tool. The quality obtained on the SiO2 content of silica sand has the highest value obtained from the experimental results which is 66.26% and the recovery value is 17.87% with a variable processing time of 40 seconds with a riffle width of 10 cm and a riffle height of 4 mm. The quality of SiO2 with the lowest level obtained from the experimental results is 54.06% and the recovery value is 56.91% with an input variable of 30 seconds with a riffle width of 20 cm and a riffle height of 8 mm.
