UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN KENIKIR (Cosmos caudatus H. B. K.) TERHADAP TIKUS PUTIH JANTAN GALUR WISTAR YANG DIINDUKSI CCl4
Oxidative stress can be stabilized with antioxidants. Kenikir is one of the natural source that potentially as antioxidant because it containing some flavonoid compound. Flavonoids contained in the ethanol extract of kenikir leaves have very strong antioxidant activity in vitro. The purposes of this study are to determine the total content of flavonoid in ethanol extract of kenikir leaf, to determine the effect of kenikir leaf ethanol extract on MDA levels, catalase enzyme activity, macroscopic and histopathological features of CCl4-induced rat liver. Rats were divided into 6 groups, those groups were normal (1% NaCMC), negative (CCl4 1 mL/kgBW), positive (vitamin C 10 mg/kgBW), test group for kenikir leaf ethanol extract with various doses of 156, 312, and 624 mg/kgBW. The results of the measurement of total flavonoid levels were 25,024 mg QE/g extract. The results showed that the three doses of kenikir leaf ethanol extract were efficacious as antioxidants which had an effect on reducing MDA levels and increasing catalase enzyme activity (p0,05). The effect of giving kenikir leaf ethanol extract on the macroscopic picture of the liver of rats showed liver characteristics that were in accordance with normal liver characteristics. Giving ethanol extract of kenikir leaves at a dose of 624 mg/kgBW showed the best liver histopathology compared to doses of 156 and 312 mg/kgBW. Keywords : Kenikir Leaves, flavonoids, antioxidants, MDA
