STUDI PROVENANCE BATUPASIR FORMASI GUMAI DAERAH TALANG MERBAU DAN SEKITARNYA, KABUPATEN OKU SELATAN, SUMATERA SELATAN.
The research location is in the village of Talang Merbau and its surroundings, South OKU Regency, South Sumatra which aims to study the provenance of the sandstones of the Gumai Formation by conducting petrographic analysis of ten sandstone samples. The results of megascopic analysis show that the sandstone of the Gumai Formation has a medium grain size – fine sand, as well as the presence of laminated and layered sedimentary structures in the sandstone outcrops. The petrographic description of rocks shows that rock naming is divided into several categories, namely felsdpathic wacke, lithic arenite, lithic arkose, lithic wacked and subaroke. Analysis of the original rock tectonic setting shows that the tectonic setting is in the recycled orogenic and magmatic arc areas based on the results of plotting data on the QFL diagram according to (Dickinson and Suczek, 1979). In this case, the origin rock is plutonic igneous rock that was uplifted in the recycled orogenic area and re-deposited to form a recycled, while the magmatic arc zone was influenced by volcanic activity that occurred in the tectonic setting of South Sumatra when the formation of Bukit Barisan was caused by the collision between the Indo Plates. -Australia with the Eurasian Plate. The results of the analysis carried out based on the paleoclimate classification using the QFL triangle diagram according to (Nelson, 2007) showed that the ancient climate in the rock of origin consisted of two climates, namely semi-arid (semi-dry) and humid (humid). Keywords: provenance, sandstone, petrography, tectonic
