UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI SECARA IN-VITRO GEL SUBMIKRO PARTIKEL PEMBAWA EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN PEGAGAN (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) TERHADAP Propionibacterium acnes
Pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) leaves have high flavonoid content which can act as antibacterial. This study aims to formulate submicroparticles into a gel dosage form and determine it’s antibacterial ability when compared to the ethanol extract of pegagan leaf which is not formed in the form of submicroparticles. The submicro gel of pegagan leaf ethanol extract was made in formulas F1, F2, F3 and F4 and there was formula 5 which was made with the best concentration of gelling agent & the active substance was not formed in submicroparticles. The results of the evaluation of physical properties according to the factorial design analysis and the stability of the optimum gel formula showed that the best formula was F3 with the characteristic average of pH, dispersion, adhesion and viscosity, respectively, which were 4.79; 6.9 cm; 169.67 seconds; 3149.967 cPs. The results of the stability test by centrifugation and cycling test showed no organoleptic changes, no phase separation and significantly different pH. The activity test showed that the submicro particle gel of the ethanol extract of pegagan leaves could inhibit Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The inhibition zone caused by the gel preparation in the test control treatment was 11.20 ± 0.020 mm on the 2nd day and 12.89 ± 0.020 mm on the 5th day with the inhibition zone criteria being strong however, the release of the active substance is still considered less than that of the pegagan leaf ethanol extract gel (without submicroparticles). Keyword : Pegagan leaf, antibacterial, inhibitory zone diameters, gel, Propionibacterium acnes
