PERANCANGAN SISTEM PROTEKSI PETIR EKSTERNAL PADA GEDUNG A SMA NEGERI 1 PALEMBANG
Lightning is a natural phenomenon that often occurs when entering the rainy season and endangers living things and the surrounding environment. To avoid the danger of lightning strikes, a Lightning Protection System is needed, especially in high-rise buildings. SMA Negeri 1 Palembang has a high level of activity and crowds on weekdays. The high mobility of the school causes the need for protection, one of which is a lightning protection system. However, at the school there is a tall building that has not been protected by a lightning protection system, namely Building A which is a data center, office, and classroom so it being very detrimental if it is hit by a lightning strike. This study aims to design an external lightning protection system using the rolling sphere method with the SketchUp application to determine the amount of air termination, conductor system, and down conductor requirements that are adapted to the building structure and in accordance with the IEC 62305 standard. The design results obtained indicate that Building A requires 8 air terminations, a conductor system with a total length of 212.8 meters and 2 down conductors with a total length of 26 meters.
