Avicennia marina and Excoecaria agallocha are 2 species of mangrove that are abundant on the coast of South Sumatra, the leaves of both have secondary metabolites that are toxic and have the potential to become vegetable insecticides. This study aimed to determine the bioactivity of the insecticides of mangrove leaf extract A. marina and E. agallocha which were extracted in stages with hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol as solvents and to analyze the content of secondary metabolites of the most toxic extract fraction using GC-MS. This research was conducted from September to November 2021. Both species were sampled from the Small Barong River in Sembilang National Park, Banyuasin Regency. The test animals used in this study were crickets (Gryllus bimaculatus) and Hongkong caterpillars (Tenebrio molitor). Based on the results of the insecticidal activity of the leaf extracts of A. marina and E. agallocha which were tested against crickets, the LC50 values for the hexane fraction were 12.562 mg/L and 15.464 mg/L, ethyl acetate 9.986 mg/L and 10.292 mg/L, methanol 6.454 mg/L and 6.969 mg/L. While the test on Hongkong caterpillars, the LC50 values for the hexane fraction were 10.682 mg/L and 11.071 mg/L, ethyl acetate 9.065 mg/L and 9.269 mg/L, methanol 4.799 mg/L and 5.408 mg/L. Based on the ISO insecticide toxicity category, (1982), the insecticidal activity of the leaf extracts of A. marina and E. agallocha was very low and non-toxic. This is also supported by the results of GC-MS analysis on the methanolic extract of A. marina leaves which contain non-toxic compounds such as alcohol compounds and dominant organic fatty acid compounds such as laurat, miristat, palmitat, linoleat, elaidat, stearate, endogen, olead, phthalate, and siloxane.
