The development of the current era has led to an increase in people's needs for electrical energy consumption. So that an electric power system must be able to guarantee in terms of availability and have good reliability. The level of reliability of an electric power system can be seen from the size of the SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index), SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index), and CAIDI (Customer Average Interruption Duration Index) values. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the reliability level of the 20 kV distribution system in the Makassar feeder using the section technique and to make efforts to increase reliability by adding a recloser using a simulation on ETAP 12.6. Calculation of the reliability index using the section technique obtained the SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI values respectively of 1.389599989 times/year; 4.33679998 hours/year; 3.12089811 hours/time, while using the simulation on ETAP 12.6, the values for SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI were 1.3436 times/year; 3.7635 hours/year; 2.801 hours/time. Based on SPLN No. 59 of 1985 which regulates the reliability index, namely SAIFI of 3.2 times/year, SAID of 21 hours/year and CAIDI of 6.5 hours/time, the values of SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI can be categorized according to the SPLN standard no. 59 of 1985 and classified as reliable. To increase the reliability, a recloser between the load points on the Makassar feeder distribution system by simulation using ETAP 12.6 and the most optimal reliability index was obtained, namely between the load points PB0017 and PB0550 with a SAIFI value of 1.1314 times/year, SAIDI of 3.1620 hours/year, and CAIDI of 2,795 hours/time. Keywords: Distribution system, Reliability Index, Section Technique, ETAP Simulation, Recloser
