UJI KESESUAIAN ANTARA PEWARNAAN ZIEHL NEELSEN DAN GENEXPERT MTB/RIF DALAM MENDIAGNOSIS TUBERKULOSIS PARU DEWASA
Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Indonesia’s TB prevalence is ranked second worldwide. The Ziehl Neelsen (ZN) staining is less sensitive than GeneXpert MTB/RTF to diagnose pulmonary TB. The gold Standard of TB (culture) takes a longer time, possibly resulting in late diagnosis. The objective of the study was to determine the level of agreement between ZN staining and GeneXpert MTB/RIF in diagnosing adult pulmonary TB in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital (RSMFI) Palembang. Mcthods: This study was an agreement test. The samples were patient specimens for the period of January 2016 - March 2017 which were carried out by ZN staining and GeneXpert MTB/RIF to diagnose pulmonary TB in the Clinical Pathology and Microbiology Installation of RSMH Palembang. Data were taken ffom laboratory results of ZN staining and GeneXpert MTB/RIF. The Cohen’s Kappa statistic was used to measure the level of agreement between the two assays. Results: Of 150 speciments, 69,3% were male patients and 30,7% were females with mean age of 46,71± 14,57. Both ZN staining and GeneXpert positivity were 57,3%. As many as 2,67% of specimens were positive for ZN staining and negative for GeneXpert MTB/RIF. Other 2,67% of specimens were ZN negative and GeneXpert MTB/RIF positive. Cohen’s Kappa coefficient was 0,893 which indicated a very good agreement. Conclusion: There is a very good agreement between ZN staining and GeneXpert MTB/RIF in diagnosing adult pulmonary TB in RSMH Palembang.
