Fixed orthodontic appliance is one of orthodontic appliance that used by attaching o n the teeth t o correct the malocclusion. The use of fixed orthodontic appliance induces changes in the oral environment among others changes in salivary pH, flow rate and ion concentration, one of them is salivary calcium concentration. The purpose of this study w as t o find out the mean o f salivary pH, flow rate and calcium concentration in patients with Jbced orthodontic appliance and patients without fixed orthodontic appliance in dental students of Sriwijaya University. The method used an analytic-descriptive cross sectional approach. The study showed that the mean of salivary pH in patients with fixed orthodontic appliance was 6,740 ± 0,326, salivary flow rate was 0,26 ± 0,041 ml/minute and salivary calcium concentration was 1,014 ± 0,229 mmol/L whereas the mean of salivary pH in patients without jbced orthodontic appliance was 7,028 ± 0,237, salivary flow rate was 0,35 ± 0,035 ml/minute and salivary calcium concentration was 1,185 ± 0,266 mmol/L It can be concluded that there were signiflcant difference in the salivary p H, flow rate, and calcium concentration between patients with flxed orthodontic appliance and patients without fixed orthodontic appliance.
