Hypertension is one of the most important causes of of early death because a very close relation with the risk of cardiovascular disease. Patients who suffered hypertension as much as 26.4%. Drugs are consumed start from diuretics, (3- blockers to ACE-inhibitors and Calcium antagonists, but that’s drugs have systemic effects and in the oral cavity, one of them is xerostoraia. Antihypertensive drugs can affect the salivary flow directly and indirectly. Directly, the drug will affect the salivary flow, while directly, affect salivary to change fluid balance and electrolyte or affect blood flow to the salivary glands to become slightly and thickened are caused xerostomia. This study aimed to examine correlation between duration of use and dose of antihypertensive drugs with occurrence of xerostomia on hypertensive patient in inpatient department of Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Inpatient facility of RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang on January 10th, 2014 to january 23rd, 2014. The study sample was 101 samples which consist of 7 samples using Penyeka treseptor beta adrenergik (fi-blockers), 82 samples using Penghambat angiotensin converting enzyme (Ace-inhibitor), 12 samples using angiotensin-receptor blocker. Patients were stated had xerostomia if wooden spatula adhered to buccal mucosa and salivary secretion was less than 1 ml for 5 minutes. From this study, showed that patients are consume P-blocker medication and angiotensin-receptor blockers are not significant, while patients who take Ace-inhibitor drugs that have meaning that there is correlation between duration of use and dose of antihypertensive drugs with occurrence of xerostomia on hypertensive patient.
