Jaw fractures were damaging or rupturing the continuity of a bone tissue, involved the maxilla and mandible that can be caused by trauma, either directly or indirectly. Jaw fractures can occur in all age ranges, bot h males and females. One of the main causes of jaw fractures was traffic accident. The high incidence rate of jaw fractures and there was been no previous research about jaw fractures in Palembang, so the researcher interested in conducting research on the prevalence of jaw fractures by age, gender, aetiology and anatomical site of the fracture. This research was a descriptive survey research with purposive sampling technigue. Samples in this research were a patients who came t o dental clinic and emergency of Dr. A. K. Gani Hospital in Palembang with jaw fractures case collected in the medical records from July 2008 until July 2013. This result showed that a total of patients with jaw fractures in Dr. A. K. Gani Hospital were 141 patients, 111 patients (78,73%) were males, 30 patients (21,27%) were females. The most aetiology was caused by traffic accidents, accounted for 71,63% or 101 patients. A high prevalence found in mandible, accounted for 93,62% or 132 patients, the majority of patients were 21 t o 30 years of age, accounted for 65,25% or 92 patients. The conclusion of this research reviewed that jaw fractures were commonly occur in males, at 21 to 30 years of age, mostly caused by traffic accidents and found in mandible.
