PREVALENSI TUMPANG GIGIT DALAM PADA MAHASISWA/I PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIKAN DOKTER GIGI UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA ANGKATAN 2010-2011
Occlusion is the relalionship of teeih when in contact involve teeth, periodontal ligament, jaw, joints, muscles, and nerves. In normal occlusion, the upper and lower teeth will be contact which the lower incisal edges contact with palatal surface of the upper incisors or slightly above the cingulum called overbite. The overbite is influenced by degree of vertical development of dento-alveolar anterior segmen t. Excessive vertical development of dento-alveolar anterior segmen t causes deep overbite thus affect the health of teeth andfacial profde. The purpose of this study was to calculate the prevalence of deep overbite malocclusion among students of Dentistry Study Program of Sriwijaya University 2010-2011 according to incisivus relation and Angle classification then be measured based on the severity of overbite. This study was a cross sectional descriptive survey and the kind of non-experimental research. The results showed that out of72 samples contained 46 samples (63,89%) had deep overbite which severe deep overbite most occur in Angle class II division 2 malocclusion. While the mild and moderat e deep overbite occur i n Angle class I and class II division 1 malocclusion.
