UJI EFEKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK BUAH ASAM JAWA (Tamarindus indica L.) TERHADAP BAKTERI Escherichia coli SECARA in vitro
Background: Tamarind (Tamarindus indica L) is a traditional medicine which contains saponins, alkaloids and glycosides that stated as antibacterial agent. The study was conducted to determine the effect of tamarind fruit extract in inhibiting the growth ofbacteria that cause pielonefritis antepartum such as Escherichia coli (gram negative). The study also investigated the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and to asses its equivalen rate with Standard antibiotic ciprojloxacin and cefadroxil. Methods: This experiment was a laboratory experimental, that used tamarind fruit extract from three solvent (n-hexane, ethylacetat and methanol) to tested against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 isolate by agar diffusion method using Kirby-Bauer disc in dijferent concentration series. Tamarind fruit extract was obtained by the maceration method using multilevel extraction. Antibacterial activity was reflected by diameter of the inhibition zones, the result was staticticallly analyzed by SPSS version 18. Result: Tamarind fruit extract from three solvent showed antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli in order of antibacterial activity as ethylacetat > methanol > n-hexane. The value of MIC of ethylacetat extract was 60 mg/ml with 0,18 ± 0,23 mm zones of inhibition rates. Equivalent rate of60.000 p g/ml ethylacetat extract compare to ciprofloxacin was 146,55 pg/ml and compare to cefadroxil was 935,2 p g/ml respectively against Escherichia coli. Conclusion: Ethylacetat extract of tamarind fruit has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (gram negative).
