The synthesized of layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr and layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr/Cellulose composite by coprecipitation method were characterized by XRD, FT-IR and SEM-EDS analysis. The synthesized material was used as an adsorbent in the regeneration process and adsorption of malachite green dye with variations in pH, time, concentration and temperature. The regeneration of the adsorbent was carried out after the desorption process of the malachite green dye using an ultrasonic device. The results of the regeneration process showed that the layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr/Cellulose composite has a more stable structure. The results of XRD characterization of layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr/Cellulose composite showed diffraction peaks at angles of 11.62˚, 29.39˚ and 59.86˚ which are typical regions of layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr materials and at angles of 22, 90˚ which is a typical material for the cellulose region. The results of the FT-IR analysis show that the composite material has Zn-O, Cr-O functional groups and the presence of nitrate anions that appear at the peak of the vibration at a wave number of 1381.03 cm-1 which is the main group in the layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr material also the C-C and C-O group which is an absorption from cellulose. SEM analysis showed that the layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr/Cellulose composite has the properties of double layer hydroxyl particles, which are roughly plate-like, spherical and stacked with a smooth surface formed from irregular aggregates. In addition, the EDS pattern of the layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr/Cellulose composite shows the elements Zn and Cr, which are the main constituents of the layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr, and elements O and C, which are the main constituents of cellulose. The second-order pseudo adsorption kinetics is more suitable to explain the adsorption process of malachite green using each adsorbent with a linear regression coefficient value close to 1. The adsorption process of malachite green using layered double hydroxide Zn-Cr/Cellulose composite adsorbent resulted in greater adsorption capacity. The parameters of the malachite green isotherm adsorption on the three adsorbents lead to the Freundlich isotherm model and occur spontaneously.
