Bagasse is a biomass waste containing lignocellulosic materials such as cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. With the presence of these compounds, bagasse has the potential to be used as a raw material in the synthesis of reduced graphene oxide (rGO). In this study, reduced graphene oxide was synthesized using the Hummer’s method using matoa leaf extract as a reducing agent. The synthesis results were characterized by XRD, FTIR and Raman Spectroscopy. The reduced graphene oxide (rGO) obtained was applied in the adsorption process for methylene blue dye. The adsorption test of methylene blue dye was based on the effect of initial dye concentration, contact time and adsorbent ratio. Based on the results of XRD pattern, rGO bagasse has a peak of 2θ = 24.58° with d-spacing 0.36 nm, FTIR characterization shows the presence of functional groups C=C, C-O, O-H and C=O and has a D peak at wave number 1359 cm-1, a G peak at 1596 cm-1 and a 2D peak at 2657 cm-1 with an ID/IG ratio of 0.91 based on characterization by Raman Spectroscopy which indicated that rGO had been successfully synthesized. From the results of the adsorption test for methylene blue, the optimum conditions were obtained at the initial concentration of the dye 50 ppm, the contact time 30 minutes and the adsorbent weight 20 mg. Bagasse rGO adsorption isotherm model followed the Langmuir isotherm model with a correlation coefficient value of 0.9972, maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) of 49,02 mg/g and KL value = 0.029 L/mg.
