PEMBUATAN KARBON AKTIF DARI AMPAS KOPI DENGAN AKTIVATOR HCl SEBAGAI ADSORPSI FENOL
The manufacture of activated carbon from carbonized coffee grounds is carried out using a furnace, with variations in carbonization temperatures of 300°C, 400°C, 500°C, variations carbonization time of 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes and variations in activator concentrations 0,5 M, 1 M, 1,5 M and 2 M. Then testing the characteristics of activated carbon by analyzing water content, ash content, iodine absorption, surface area and phenol adsorption. Based on temperature variations obtained the best carbonization temperature at 300°C. Based on the time variations obtained the best carbonization time at 60 minutes and based on the concentration variations obtained the best activator concentration at 1 M. In the analysis of water content obtained 2,5989%, ash content 4,0311%, iodine absorption 219,96 mg/g, surface area 581,1 m2 /g and phenol adsorption at concentrations of 1 ppm, 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 15 ppm and 20 ppm with percent removal and absorption respectively with values (76,7076%, 72,3128%, 71,1769%, 70,8231%, 65,46%) and (38,3538 mg/g, 36,1564 mg/g, 35,5885 mg/g, 35,4115 mg/g, 32,73 mg/g). Based on the activated carbon characterization, the water content, ash content and surface area have met the SNI 06-3730-1995.
